About the book

Kamilla Akhmin’s published book draws on her own experiences and stories shared by women in her salon. In a candid, direct voice, it explores the amusing, surprising and painful realities of meeting people online.

Behind the encounters are familiar questions: whom can we trust, how do we recognise deception, and what can we learn from our own experiences and those of others? Humour and emotion sit alongside moments of uncomfortable recognition.

Written for adult readers, the book is based on real experiences. Names and locations have been changed to protect the people involved. The published work is accompanied by a five-part themed ebook series and two existing stage-script versions.

FROM THE BOOK TO THE STAGE

Two versions. A shared question.

Who has the right to tell our story? The stage adaptation brings the women’s dating experiences into a salon, where the characters challenge the way their stories are being written.

Two manuscripts have already been written: a version for six performers with six main scenes, and a version for four performers with nine scenes. The play has not yet been staged.

The theatre page presents the synopsis, a scene excerpt, estimated running times and a poster concept.

The Liars · Lilla’s story

“We met here in Pest. You know, outside our favourite cake shop. At the time, I still thought he lived in Fehérvár. At least, that was what he told me at first. Of course, it turned out later that this was a lie too. Anyway, he parked outside the café. Right beside my X5. He was driving a BMW too. So far, so good, I thought. Then it got even better. A real dream man stepped out of the car. He looked even better than I’d expected from the photographs. Sporty but smart. A winning smile. A firm handshake, but not a crushing one. ‘I’m Alex,’ he said, looking straight into my eyes. I shivered… I was so enchanted that I didn’t even notice he’d left out his surname.”

“Didn’t he tell you later either?”

“No. And that should have been a warning sign. It should have set alarm bells ringing. Of course, hindsight…”
